How to Build More Confidence - The Magic of Thinking Big
Hey everyone☺️ Hope you’re having a fantastic day.
In this issue, I’d love to share my highlights from my favourite book.
I’ve been reading a classic book called “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David Schwartz. It’s an old book but offers many life hacks you can apply in your life.
How to build confidence is one of the topics in this book. Lack of confidence feeds our fear. And fear makes us run away from opportunities.
So, how can we build more confidence?
The author shows we can become more confident simply by acting confidently. Just like forcing yourself to smile actually makes you want to smile, forcing yourself to act confidently makes you feel more confident.
1. Sit in front
In classrooms or meetings, many people choose to sit in the back because they lack confidence. Next time you go to a class or meeting, sit in front even if you’re scared. This will build your confidence gradually.
2. Make eye contact
Failures to make eye contact shows you’re scared and lack confidence.
But you can avoid giving this impression by making yourself look the other person in the eye. Doing this shows the other person that you’re honest, you know what you’re doing, and you’re not afraid.
3. Walk 25% faster
Slow walking and bad posture are linked with confidence, according to some psychologists. People who walk faster show super confidence. Try to walk 25% faster to build more confidence. Simply throw your shoulders back, lift your head up and move a little faster.
4. Speak up
Speaking up is scary. But each time you fail to speak up, you feel less and less confident of yourself. On the flip side, your confidence grows every time you speak up, and it gets easier. So, speak up at every meeting, conference, or class. Make a comment, suggestion or ask a question.
5. Smile
Smile is medicine for confidence deficiency. It defeats fear. A real smile melts away the opposition of others as people can’t be angry with you if you give them a big, sincere smile. It’s hard to smile when you’re angry, scared or tired. But the trick is to tell yourself forcefully “I’m going to smile”. Then smile.
Thanks for reading this issue! I hope it was helpful to you in some way.
Have a lovely weekend!
