Are You Above Average? How a Change in Your Mindset Improves Your Learning
Hey everyone!
Do you think you’re above average?
As much as I hate to admit, but I think I do. In fact, most people do.
Quoting from Derek Silvers:
96% of cancer patients claim to be in better health than the average cancer patient.
94% of professors say they are better-than-average teachers.
90% of students think they are more intelligent than the average student.
93% of drivers say they are safer-than-average drivers.
Okay, we all overestimate our ability.
But is that a bad thing?
Yes, especially when it comes to learning!
If we assume we know everything, we’d stop learning. Imagine how much more we can learn if we can set this toxic attitude aside.
you will listen more
you will ask more questions
you won’t be scared to look stupid
you’ll be more eager to absorb knowledge
For such a small change in your mindset, it will bring you a HUGE amount of learning opportunities that you would have missed otherwise.
As Ryan Holiday says,
If you want to learn, if you want to improve your life, seeking out teachers, philosophers, and great books is a good start. But this approach will only be effective if you’re humble and ready to let go of opinions you already have.
Let us try our best to assume we’re below average!
